Spring comes to Sablet and Provence

Tulip Fields on the road between Sablet and Orange

Spring has come to Sablet – some of the fields between Sablet and Orange are a sea of red and yellow tulips. In the vinyeards that surround the village,  the the vines are waking, and are by now covered in their new spring green.  The markets and the village stores  announce the new season’s vegetables – bunches of small crisp radishes, fava beans, bundles of white asparagus and of course, everyone’s favorite – “Fraises de Carpentras” –  Strawberries from Carpentras!  These delicious seasonal treats are just the first signs of the coming cornucopia of locally grown fruits and vegetables that will be available during the coming season!
In restaurants, the menus have changed from the hearty, warming winter meals to "cartes" featuring the lighter Spring favorites.
Around the village the spring sunshine brings out  white and pale pink blossoms,  wisteria winding it's way along garden walls, and the window boxes full of new seasons flowers.
